Freelance Evening Event Driver + Production Associate

Freelance - $40-45/hour based on experience

Variegated NYC is a Brooklyn-based plant design studio creating greenery installations for offices, events, and other spaces throughout NYC. We’re seeking dependable evening & weekend freelancers to handle event breakdowns, pickups, and the safe return of plants and materials to our Red Hook studio.

This hands-on role combines driving and event production, with responsibility for independently completing studio returns. Work is intermittent and project-based, with evening and late-night shifts that may become available on short notice.

Responsibilities 

  • Drive box trucks up to 15-20 feet throughout NYC, navigating venue loading docks, freight entrances, and city streets.

    Assist with event breakdowns, carefully removing, packing, and loading plants, planters, and installation materials.

    Check materials against pickup lists and communicate missing items, damage, or access delays to the project lead.

    Secure loads and protect plants, materials, and venue finishes throughout the return process.

    Independently complete studio returns, including unloading, organizing materials in designated areas, and securing the vehicle and studio.

    Coordinate with the install lead, venue staff, and crew to meet pickup windows and provide clear completion updates.

Requirements 

  • Valid driver’s license and demonstrated experience safely driving box trucks up to 15 feet in NYC.

  • Availability for evening and late-night work, including some weekends.

  • Ability to accept intermittent assignments on short notice; hours vary by event schedule.

  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and clear communication, especially when plans change.

  • Comfortable with physical work, including standing for extended periods and consistently lifting/carrying up to 50lbs

  • Comfortable using dollies, hand trucks, and loading equipment to move materials safely.

Experience in event production, deliveries, installations, or warehouse operations is a plus. Plant handling experience is welcome but not required.
